First-Year Experience (FYE): Information Literacy (IL)

Information Literacy Defined

Information literacy can be defined as the ability to "recognize when information is needed and have the ability to locate, evaluate, and use effectively the needed information.”

Why is information literacy important today?

There is such an abundance of resources available today, particularly online.  While there are benefits to having more information available, it also makes it more difficult to find the information needed. Things such as currency, relevancy, authority, accuracy and purpose are important considerations to have when evaluation information.
