Government Documents: Start Here

This guide is meant to lead you to important Government Resources listed on the web and held locally at Lindsey Wilson College.  The Katie Murrell Library is a congressionally designated depository for U.S. Government documents. Public access to the government documents collection is guaranteed by public law (Title 44 United States Code).

It receives a selection of government publications in print, microform, and electronic formats. These include periodicals, statistical reports, consumer literature, agency directories, census data, and research​ findings from all branches of the government.  The Murrell Library receives 23.79% of the items that are available for selection through this program. This collection is provided as a service to the community and to citizens of Kentucky's First Congressional District. 

Note: "Federal depository libraries must offer free, public access to their Federal collections, even if the depository library is part of a private academic institution. In addition, information specialists are available at these libraries to assist the American public to locate Federal information.""The United States Government is the largest publisher in the world. It distributes materials in a variety of formats, including electronic, CD, microfiche, and paper. As part of its publishing program, the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) through the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) distributes certain classes of Government documents free of cost to designated libraries throughout the United States and its territories.These libraries are known as Federal depository libraries."
